Six stages of The Indian Village Painting
Stage 1. Having scumbled the canvas , I block the figure in . The oil paint
is light to the turpentine . Stage 2 . Blocking in using a limited pallet .
At this stage Burnt Umber is used , the brush technique becomes more
assertive. Stage 3. Shows more detail .

Stage 4. Introducing Naples Yellow and Flake White . I am able to define
the shape of the figure.
Stage 5 . Further detail.
Stage 6. Establishing a background . The figure needs to stand solidly in the
the composition and to achieve this we can block in shapes , and pick out
further detail . At this stage there is the introduction of a cooler colour pallet
with the green foliage .
Stage 7. The completion of the painting . Finely balancing the cool
pallet with the warm , showing more detail on the saree , and picking out
the steps in the background. The banner shape juxtaposes the foliage
to right of the composition.
